In the first double elimination game, host Austria met the Argentinian squad. The Austrians were on a roll in the first set, pulling ahead quickly and winning the set with 11:2. The Argentinian team got better into the game in set two keeping the game at a tie until 5:5. However, Austria took again control and won also the second set. The Austrian team also prevailed in set three and thus won the match. In particular attackers Ines Mayer and Marlene Hieslmair played a strong game.
Marlene Hieslmair (AUT): We know we can play well and were able to show that in this match. It’s hard to play against Argentina, because Nati [Dominioni] plays for an Austrian team and knows our strength and weaknesses. Before the match we motivated each other again and took a fresh start in this tournament. We will play the up-coming games at full throttle.
Natalia Dominioni (ARG): It was definitely hard to play against the Austrian team because I know them and they know me. We know about each others strength and weaknesses and I think they are able to tell what I am going to do just by observing my arm. I think my girls had some difficulties today. Our legs are a little heavy and we are not as motivated and concentrated as we have been in the beginning.
