Recap

While Switzerland delivered a strong performance, the team of coach Anton Lässer lost against defending champion Germany in their double elimination game yesterday. The Swiss squad thus had to prove itself in another quarter-final match against Argentina. The statistics before the game were on the side of Switzerland: in their seven encounters thus far, the Europeans had won all of them.

They also took the initiative this time around, establishing an 8:4 lead in the first set. While Argentina briefly bounced back, the Swiss team took the set with 11:7.

Switzerland kept in control in set two and quickly pulled ahead to a comfortable lead (10:4). Six set points for the Swiss team – Janine Stoob scores the second attempt, Switzerland is ahead 2:0.

The game continues in this manner in the third set. However, Argentina reduces a three-point gap and equalizes the score (7:7). The Swiss are then able to turn things around and seal the deal with an 11:8 set win.

Rahel Hess (SUI): It was a great game, with good combos. We did make more unforced mistakes in the last set, but could win it in the end.

Noeli Gallina (ARG): The biggest difficulties in this match were the short balls. We didn’t manage to solve this problem, but in the end we played well. We failed to play better and we will continue to fight.
