Rapperswil-Jona, the city of roses on the upper part of Lake Zurich, combines sights, cultural life, hiking and sports opportunities with a Mediterranean holiday atmosphere. The community was created in 2007 from the merger of the two independent communities Rapperswil and Jona. Today, 27,308 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2020) live in the city of roses, making it the second largest city in the canton of St. Gallen.
The young city located near the Lake Zurich has a lot to to offer for every taste. The location is beautiful and unique. There are many ways to Rapperswil, whether by sea, by train or car over the Seedamm, by e-bike on the Herzroute or on foot on the Jakobsweg. To get an overview of the beautiful city, we recommend strolling through the colorful blooming rose gardens to the linden hill near the castle of Rapperswil.
The city is very centrally located in the heart of Switzerland. From Rapperswil-Jona, the largest Swiss city of Zurich and many other sights such as the Säntis panoramic mountain, the world-famous historical city of Lucerne and the mountains in the canton of Graubünden can be reached within a short time. The city itself also offers tourists a small but fine old town, overshadowed by Rapperswil Castle. Here is a selection of the sights of Rapperswil-Jona, recommended by Rapperswil Zürichsee Tourismus:
