Recap
For the second time, the two teams face each other at a world championship. Switzerland had clearly won the match in Dresden (11:5, 11:3, 11:4) – and four years later the encounter ended with just as many points told. Both teams offered the nominally second team. Switzerland won the first set 11:3 – all three Italian points were line errors by the Swiss team. It was similarly clear in the second movement. Janine Stoob was very efficient (11:5). Italy starts the thirs set with a 3:1-leading, after a time out Switzerland took over again and entered the next round of double elimination with 11:4.
Philipp Frasnelli, Coach (ITA): Unfortunately, we did not win this match against Switzerland. We have to play many games in this Championship, which is why we have to use our strength wisely. We decided to give our star players a break, the Swiss team did the same. We did play rather good in the second set, however, our attackers are not as good and, therefore, we could not turn the game around.
Janine Stoob (SUI): Luckily, we got our heads in the game quickly. We had a few difficulties in the beginning, but were able to fight our way back. It’s definetly good to have won 3:0 against Italy. Now we will prepare ourselves for the match against Germany later today.
